About Me
My name is Silvia Galli

I am an economist passionate about understanding how innovation, technological change, and policy shape economic growth and social well-being. My work bridges theory and empirics, exploring how ideas evolve into productive forces — and how institutions can make that process more inclusive and sustainable.
After earning my PhD in Economics from Durham University, I taught and conducted research at the University of Hull and later joined the University of St. Gallen, where I contributed to large international projects such as the EU Horizon 2020 MONROE and the SNSF Post-Pandemic Economic Outlook. These experiences have strengthened my belief that rigorous research can inform real-world decisions.
Over the past decade, I have published in leading international journals, collaborated with European institutions and policy actors, and developed teaching programs that connect students with the frontier of innovation economics. I am particularly interested in the intersection between intellectual property, health, and technological transformation.
I value diversity, curiosity, and intellectual openness — qualities that I also try to cultivate in my students and research collaborators.
Ultimately, I see economics as a living discipline: a way to rethink how progress, creativity, and equity can coexist in an evolving world.

In 2014, I was awarded the prestigious "UniCredit & Universities Foundation Best PhD Thesis Award", conferred to the three best PhD theses in economics discussed within European universities over the previous three years.
